BASIC COURSE: The basic course is comprised of a theoretical and practical introduction to terminology and principles of handling basic boat equipment (usage of rope and rigging), positioning, deployment, positions and role of boat crew (yacht steering with engine on and during sailing), introduction to basic situations encountered at sea (sailing theory, safety at sea, Adriatic Sea winds, tying knots….) There should be no more than 6 attendants + instructor on the yacht. During the seven day course, training will be divided into two parts: lectures with gaining the theoretical knowledge and theory applications at sea. Knowledge gained in this course, will be sufficient for boat leader examination at the Master Harbor Office.
ADVANCED COURSE: The advanced course is intended for attendants with previous knowledge gained in the basic course and it will also last seven days, which are entirely spent on the yacht at sea. Training will consist of sailing to a new designated port, sailing with a spinnaker, sailing and navigation at night with help of lighthouses and sailing to destinations with no lighthouses. Each attendant will individually learn how to dock the ship with an engine and sails and will be personally carry out all maneuvers on the yacht. By mastering an advanced course, the attendants will mainly be instructed on how to manage the yacht independently.
REGATTA COURSE: The Regatta course is recommended for the attendants with experience covered in the advanced course. It is a logical continuation to gaining an overall knowledge in yachting school. This course will also last seven days, and it will consist of yacht and crew preparation for regatta departure, as well as participation in one of the regattas on the Adriatic Sea. The course is comprised of theoretical and situation activities. Theoretical part of the course consists of lecturers on regatta regulations, tactics in regattas, crew duties in regatta and the second part covers practical applications of theoretical knowledge.
SKIPPER COURSE: The skipper course comes at the end. Conditions for these attendants will be experience of the previous three courses as well as possession of a boat leader license for more than three years. The purpose of this course is to introduce attendants to the secrets of the skipper profession at land and at sea, from boarding on the yacht with guests until docking and seeing them off. The course consists of getting familiar with boat parts, engine work, telecommunications and nautical rights and obligations. The knowledge gained in this course will be sufficient to take exam for engine seaman at the Master Harbor Office, as well as for independent skipper activities with professional purpose.
Manuals cover written text and quality photographs with detailed descriptions of each section and would be used as main literature for educational purposes for all four courses.
